Watch and learn milking of sheep’s, learn how to make cheese the traditional way. Learn to plant and collect vegetables. Make and bake bread in wood oven. Participate to prepare and cook your lunch.
Arrival to the small village Bitzariano and the shepherds place where you will be shown the traditional way of milking and why not to try milking a sheep if they wish. Visit the village of Polythea where we are invited by a local family to their house to taste all kinds of Crete mountain teas and herbs. Next stop we visit the family’s garden so called ‘bostani’ where guest will be taught how to plant vegetables; you will cut, taste and fill up the baskets to prepare your lunch later. We continue by coach to the village of Kato Karouzanos where you will be introduced to the methods of producing the local spirit of raki, the honey, hand weaving etc. It is time now to start preparing your meal. Local cook will teach you how to prepare the local bread baked in the wood oven and taste as it is coming out of the oven. The ones wishing to be taught cooking they will participate to prepare lunch under the supervision of our cook, meal and wine is offered while our Shepherd produces the cheese from the milk collected earlier called kefalotiri and mizithra. You will participate to the procedure and help the Shepherd to prepare the cheese, they all taste as it is coming up from the cylinder. After meal you will be taught how to make your own Greek coffee. There is time to visit a little shop selling all above local products.
