Santorini Five Senses

Santorini is one of the most famous travel destinations all over the world thanks to its unique beauty. Santorini is the island with a history of thousands of years that attracts millions of people every year, the volcanic island, the cosmopolitan island, the wild beauty island. Santorini will exceed your expectations, engraving indelible memories. I was one of its lucky inhabitants, living on the island for 15 years, working and providing travel services all these years trying to give to our valuable visitors the opportunity to taste this magical place with their five sensesoianew 300x200 - Santorini Five Senses.

If you come by boat, your gaze wanders on the one hand to the wild black volcanic landscape created by the Old and New Kameni (old and new Burned islands), while on the other hand you are welcomed by the small port of fishermen, Ammoudi. Above this small magical image hangs Oia, the village where everyone is trying to find a place to admire the unique sunset.
The look continues to travel inside the caldera, enchanting the traveler with the hanging villages on the cliff, blending the blue of the sky with the white of the houses and the reddish-brown color of the rocks of the island. It gives a sense of eerie and makes us want to get off the ship quickly and climb to the top to walk through the alleys of the villages.

If you are again one of those who arrive by plane on the island but also lucky to fly over and through the Caldera, then you will see the countless pools on the edge of the cliff with a unique view of the volcano and the sunset, the many small sailboats in the bays sailing with the visitors to the blue waters and the unique beauties of the volcano.

Visitors from all over the world will be able to find the right accommodation for their taste on this island. From a very expensive hotel room with 5-star services, on the cliff, to a simple budget room on the other side of the island. We will find the most expensive accommodation on the Caldera (on the cliff overlooking the volcano), whether it is in Fira, the island’s capifiraatnightnew 300x200 - Santorini Five Sensestal, or in Firostefani and Imerovigli, or in Oia in the northernmost part of the island. This does not mean that on the east side of the island or on the coastal villages there are no quality and expensive accommodation, but there we will find the most economical ones as well. Options can be found in Kamari and Perissa-Perivolos, the two most famous black beaches on the island.

Santorini, however, is not only a magnificent view, it is the good quality food that we will taste either in the traditional small taverns of Exo Gonia, Pyrgos, Megalochori, or in one of the gourmet restaurants of Oia and Fira. It is the knowledge of making good wine. Here on the island with the wild landscape but with the rich soil is produced the famous Assyrtiko and the sweet Vincanto. Years of tradition have turned the local winery into a renowned production of excellent wine around the world. The unique nest-shaped vineyards are made like that so they can protect themselves from the windssantoriniland 300x200 - Santorini Five Senses, and they give the varieties of grapes that produce the award-winning wines.

Santorini is also the myth of its creation, its history and evolution over the time, it is all that makes it unique in our imagination. Many believe that here is where the Lost Atlantis lies, the developed and rich civilization that suddenly disappeared. Its volcano with its activity is the one that has brought Santorini to this geological form over the millennia, which magnetizes the world. It is the volcano that destroyed the ancient Minoan civilization that lived on the island and also the palace of Knossos in Crete, and it is the same that magnetizes thousands of tourists every year.

Santorini is its people who over the years have managed to tame and create on this wild island. Tough workers and hospitable people saw early on that this area on the map could become the center of the world.

Details about the island will follow in our next post.
